TBH I took Barb's hesitation to kiss the doll for the fact that the doll's name is Chucky. I imagine that if he be related to this family in some way that they are aware that they had a relative who was an infamous serial killer who's name was Charles Lee Ray, and went by the name of "Chucky" Also if the urban legends of the killer doll who's body was possed the spirit of CLR made their rounds with this family, that enough would be very unnerving to me. I can see her being hesitant for that alone, especially if she was the one responsible for leading the cops to his demise.
Now granted, by those rights who would allow a doll like that in their house. Perhaps Nica is unware of this family secret, and I am sure Barb wouldn't tell her little girl of such a horrible thing. So she could just be playing along, and of course being naive to the legends, logically telling herself "well, it is just a doll afterall" or she does suspect something but everyone else brushes it off as "it's just a doll" ala Ian.
Even though Bride and Seed are not being looked at in Curse, those movies did tell a bit of a tale of Chucky's aggression towards women. Through out the series we did get hints of that sprinkled through out series. Granted he showed the same lack of mercy to any of his victims regardless of sex but we can see in some cases where women could have been more targeted and to his liking.
CP1- like thecrazeeartist mentioned, Det. Mike Norris disgused as a woman. Apparently Chucky found a target in women as a human.
Bride- Vivian VanPelt, he dumped her in the river during his human years
Seed- He mentioned how he killed Tiffany's mother.
NTM he does have a fare share of female victims under his belt as a doll, and just think of how he spoke to Karen when he first came alive. "You stupid *censored*, you filthy *censored*, I'll teach how the *censored* with me" Very aggressive NTM karen wasn't any of those things.
Chucky has proven that he is more of an opportunistic killer because of his situation, but I would like to get to know the man enough to where it, not diminishes, but enhances just how dangerous he is. Most slashers have no rhyme or reason like Michael Myers, or Jason. Freddy was a child murderer but for the sake of not wanting to turn off audiences we never did see him in that scary way of actually killing a child, and I agree that I wouldn't want to see that. But as years rolled on we forgot just how *censored*ed up a guy like Freddy was. It was easy for us to dismiss him when killing off a bunch of 20 somethings playing teens. But if you actually think about it, we shouldn't look to Freddy as a cool guy. He murdered children.
Believe it or not Freddy vs. Jason had the best depiction of his crimes prior to him becoming the dream demon. The beginning where he has a little girl in the corner of his boiler room was scary to me. He throws her doll in the fire (creepy visual) then we see a shadow of his gloved had sprawl out with knives. Next scene is him looking at a pic of the little girl while smoking a ciggarette as if he got some sort of sick sexual satisfaction from this. Then licking the back of the pic like a *censored*ing pervert and putting in his book like a stamp collection. Now sis first victim, Tina, was stated as to being only 15 years old in the first NOES, but she obviously wasn't so it wasn't as effective unless when you learn that tidbit of info and think on it. He slashed her blouse open, and she just got done having sex with her boyfriend before falling asleep. Hard to believe this is what 15 year old do, but some do. Again it wasn't effective scary because the girl looked old enough to drink and vote. However, the beginning scene in F vs. J just really showed how twisted this guy actually was and it was very effective to make me hate this guy.
Granted this could have just set the tone for later when Jason kicks his ass because in many ways, Jason was just a guy with really, really bad luck and he can almost feel sorry for him to some degree. He is a mindless monster who misses his mother. Freddy was dipicted as being a conscience evil who enjoys inflicting harm, I find that to be much scarier when some one kills for the sick pleasure they get out of it. Plus there are people in real life like this so it touches more of a nerve with audience IMHO.
I am not saying that we need extremes like Chucky killing children or raping people, but we did forget that he is a killer. He has the conscience mind of a psychopath and is fully aware of his own doings. Since being in a doll he was just looking for a way out and killing anyone who got in his way. Now that we are getting to learn more about his passed hoefully we'll be reintroduced to the element of his character that eludes to fear.
