Good Morning fellow members,
I wanted to discuss the actual title of "Curse of Chucky" and how people will perceive this movie once it is available for purchase.
I know us memebers in here are die hard fans and it doesn't matter what they call the movie, we'll see it. I am talking more in terms of regular fans. The people who watch many horror films, and have seen Chucky movies, but aren't the die hard fans we are. I am also talking about the people who gave up on our little hero.
I know that Chucky to some is viewed as a joke, and I can respect why there would be such opinions. I remember after seeing Seed the owner of the theater I used to frequent (lord rest his soul) said to me "I hope they don't make another Chucky movie" Needless to say I disagreed, but again I am hardcore when it come to Chucky.
This new movie is going to bring back what we loved most about the franchise in the first place. Yet, it is going in a new direction from the tid bits we already know. So, How are others going to interpret an "of Chucky" title because let's face it, the "of Chucky" movies thus far felt like a totally different ride compared to the Child's Play titles. You have some fans out there and all they know are the "of Chucky" films. Then you have other who never got on board with the "of Chucky" films like my friend who refuses to watch Bride or Seed.
We are all hoping for the return of not only the Horror aspect but the look that Chucky once had. Most of us are confident that he will have his classic look, but with Universal being so secretive about it I have to ask... Is he going to be on the DVD cover? I think if they used an image of him on the DVD that might help drive sales for regular viewers because if he should be unstiched it will definitely send out a fimilar vibe with some of those people.
If they want his look to be a surprise in the movie itself and all that is on the DVD cover is mainly the title of the film, then some might pass because of the unfortunate turn this frachise had. If they aren't going to put him on the DVD cover then I say we at least get some imagery that says "Hey bud, this is a Horror film. Buy me."
What do you guys think of the Title that was chosen?
Sorry for the long tangent. I guess I have my concerns because I want to see this film make as much success as possible. I also think it is odd that Universal isn't already trying to do some sort of promotions for this movie. I understand that it is straight to DVD, and they don't know how to repackage Chucky and reintroduce to the market while expecting people to take it seriously. But still, a couple of months before the release is cutting it a little too close for comfort IMO.
