So are we going to pretend like these remakes don't effect the quality of the series over all despite the old argument "the originals will always be there" . Again, its already been estblished by different franchises that you can restart with out treading over our cherished childhood memories, so why would you be for it.
You can not make lightening strike twice in the same area, your destined to fail with these remakes. The sooner people get that and stop porting out in droves to Support a quick made script with a famous bad guy, that isn't going to get a sequel we can move on to the next big thing . The Halloween franchise had the chance to go bad twice before they decided to remake it. I realise it's "big business" but the fact is we're on the losing end if the spectrum when it comes to these remakes. They aren't interested in putting out a quality product, which is why they've all been terrible. They're interested in profit, what better way then t I don't think this should should be romanticized simply because if anything it gives us the opportunity to see them on the screen again.
I'd rather have no more Halloween at this point then to get a 3d Halloween movie.
I agree with you, but at the same time I understand the business end and let's face it. Hollywood is all about profit nowadays... not art.
I saw all the remakes so far and if anything it only enhanced my appreciation for the original movies. Especially Halloween. Rob Zombie to me is a talentless stump whose films were only green lit simply because he is Rob Zombie. He completely took a dump on the Halloween franchise, but did he destroy it? No. Because we will always have the Masterpiece that is the orgianl John Carpenter's Halloween, and not one soul on this earth can do anything to make it better.
The NOES remake had it's merrits, but again it is hard to replace a character like Freddy, especially since one man was always behind the make-up for so many years. In a way I felt the remake was darker, but at the same time could have been more bizzar given today's technology and what a good nightmare can consist of. Jackie Earl Haylee did a good enough job as the Dream Demon but the script was awful between being a full fledged pedophile, a bunch on teed drama queens, and the incident being so isolated.
Both Friday the 13th and Texas Chainsaw Massacre were OK but again couldn't deliver what the originals had... although the TCM remake had a little more heart and emotion than the original, and it is hard to do a remake of the original Ft13 without any Jason acknolwedgement in it since he is the face of that franchise.
Do I like remakes? No. But I did support the idea of a Child's Play Remake and here is why.
Don Mancini was still involved as well as several other crew memebrs. Most remakes do not have that oppurtunity going for them. Also the biggest factor was Brad Dourif still playing Chucky. This is definitely something that remakes can't provide or won't. Last with what Seed of Chucky left behind a remake to me seemed to be the only way to go to redeem the fans, and get on the big screen.
I try to think of the 2003 Hulk vs the 2008 Hulk. Granted that was only one movie to be rebooted as oppsed to a franchise, but still it has been proven that you can start over and correct mistakes.
Now with that said, we are actually getting something a little bit better with Chucky. Yes it is going straight to DVD because is it still a sequal, but it has the capability to redeem where the franchise had gone. If a Child's Play remake ever happens I wouldn't be against it, but I can take even easier to it now that we get a second chance to wrap up where this series is going. Which was the one thing the franchises had that chucky didn't. Halloween, NOES, and Ft13 had peaks and valleys. Child's Play went straight down, so now we have a chance to see it go up before we say goodbye to this continuity. If anything, I would like to see a finality movie before a remake i.e. Freedy's Dead, Jason Goes to Hell, etc. Or even a cross over movie, but I can't think who would be a good opponent for Chucky. Certianly not Leprechaun.
