I got this movie on Blu-Ray for really cheap, and it was one of those films that I have seen but really didn't get the chance to fully digest.
So after seeing it in stunning HD and really paying attention to this film I have to say that for starters... it really shows Christian Bale's range as an actor. He play's a total whacko and even though he is the protagonist in this film, there were times I felt unconfortable by his performance yet there were times I found myself actually seeing his character as somewhat likeable... bravo.
Also I liked the theme of this film being a satire of the upper echelon and how indistingushable these white collor business men were to those around them and eachother. How that they are so into themselves that they don't notice those around them to the point of blind stupidity.
I know the book was much more specific to the central theme, but the movie did present this film that can be interpreted a number of ways. It can leave the impression that this man was hallucinating his crimes, or that because he was a cog of higher society that he was mearly overlooked by others, and of course confused with others of his kind. Kinda like a seeing what you only want to see type theme.
The film is brilliant on many levels. It may not be everyone's cup of tea, but it has a much deeper message that goes beyond a normal slasher flick. It's a shame some *censored* decided to go ahead and tarnish the atmosphere of this film by making a subpar sequel that is nothing more than an average slasher flick. There are some movies that are good as stand alone films and this was one of them IMHO.
For those who have seen this movie, what are your thoughts?
