Ok so we now know that Bride and Seed weren't erased from the franchise. I think it is a good thing only because we can't unsee those movies, and it's almost as if Don was saying, "Yeah that's right. I made Bride and Seed so what are you going to do about it. Shut up and watch Curse." So in a small way I am glad to actually have a 6th entry that is truely a 6th entry and not have to rethink all that I knew despite where the series went thanks to Bride and Seed.
However, since this movie did keep those films in mind I also think Curse gave me a feeling of being something completely foreign. It reminded me of nothing pre or post Bride yet at the same time this movie tried hard to give us some fan service. So this brings me to my topic, how did we get from the dark horror of CP1-Cp3, to the comedic antics of BRide and Seed, to the dark tone of Curse. Not just the atmosphere but also in general story.
This post is going to be long, but there are so many questions, and a lot of holes in the story and I'd like to hear your thoughts.
Exibit A. Chucky is back... HOW? Tiffany is apparently helping him, but why? Does she still love him? Apparently so when the mail clerk asked her what the value of the package was she replied "What is the price of Love?" Also he was much cleaner looking so did she give him a complete overhaul, or did he get a new body, but for some reason his stiches are now part of his soul. Also his stitches were different. It looks like he wasn't as messed up looking as he was before. Don't forget Tiffany is still Jennifer Tilly, so she now has the funds to get better materials, or even pay b1keclipse to do the touch up work.
Exibit B. Chucky not being organic... REALLY? Are we supposed to forget the ending to Seed where Chucky sent his arm to Glen, or was that a real event? If so this movie almost backs up that ending with Chucky being more of a posessed doll rather than a doll/human hybrid. Even though CP1 established that he could move his dismembered parts, Curse took it way beyond to the point where Chucky pretty much can't be hurt. I have a crazy theory that maybe when he was brought back to life (or maybe he never died in the first place) Tiffany attached his active limbs to a doll torso. I know this sounds crazy, but with his head being knocked off clean, and then being stabbed in the back, it appears that his torso might be the only non organic part of him. Granted it would start to change after a while, but this would buy him time. Or the Voodoo is doing different things now. Either way I am not sure if I like this or not.
Exibit B. Chucky loving Sarah, but dating Tiffany? OK so Bride established that Chucky had left a ring behind that Tiffany thought was hers. This could still be true. For all we know a couple days could have passed when Sarah called the cops on Chucky. It is also possible that "The Lakeshore Strangler" wasn't identified until Sarah led the cops to him. Where does Tiffany fit in all this. Let's not forget Tiffany is really *censored*ed in the head anyway, she would probably allow Chucky to kidnap Sarah as a love interest. We need to realize that Tiffany was probably very young in 1988 and she could have been very naive to Chucky's intentions. He could have even told her that he plans on killing this woman after she give birth and they'll raise the child. Also, where does Vivian Van Pelt fit in all of this? Granted we now have to try to fit this back story into all we know, but it can if you try, I guess.
Exibit C. Chucky posessing Alice? Ok so he is still looking to become human. I guess after being abandoned in Seed, he probably figured that maybe he should stick to his original plans. But even here, it looked like this was going to be a success but apparently it wasn't. I even thought for a brief moment that maybe he does transfer his soul into Alice and then sends Alice to Andy knowing that it she will get killed. But he did speak so his plans with Alice didn't work obviously. So we have to figure out what are his goals in this film exactly.
There are plently more things to discuss, but these were the main things that stood out in my mind. Overall I thought the movie was really good and did it's job at being darker than the last 2 films. I just wish they would have explained more with the smaller details and fitting those into all the mythios we already knew. After watching this I feel like I know nothing, and nothing could be assumed. Maybe it was done this way on purpose to take away any predictability.
You decide.
