Thanks to Dark Dean for bringing this to my attention, I recently conducted an interview with the actor that's been surrounded by the little rumblings of controversy regarding production Curse so I wanted to clear things up about what was going on an some interesting info about production,
contains some spoilers so if you didn't want to know some details, read with discretion.
> A) Can you introduce your line of credits or work as an entertainer for
> anyone who may not have heard of you ?
I've done a commercial for Disney as a deaf kid signing to his
grandfather, the commercial is titled "Signs", and I've won an award
for it. I've done a lot of appearances in music videos for Missy
Elliott, Ludacris, Jennifer Lopez, Kelly Rowland and more. And I've
done a lot of T.V show appearances for Drake and Josh, and That's So
Raven. And I stopped acting when I was 17, I started doing my own
music, and I wanted to just focus on that. Then I decided in the
spring of 2012 that I would return to acting, but I would want to get
bigger auditions.
> B) How exactly did you come across the opportunity to be a part of the
> upcoming film curse of chucky
I'm signed with S.A.G (Screen Guild for Actors) I got an text from my
manager saying that I got offered to do an audition for this
re-make/re-boot, "Curse of Chucky". And I auditioned in L.A, and they
loved me. They said they want to cast me right away.
> C) What exactly was the role you were up for in the film.
As a black police officer. They wanted me to play as a disabled cop,
that's why I got casted right away, they thought a hard-of-hearing cop
would be perfect for the movie.
> D) Were you actually cast in the role, and then turned it down ?
Actually, Yes. I was already casted. I was ready to go to Winnipeg,
Canada where they were filming. I packed my bags, then My manager came
to my house and said that one of the producers needed to talk to me
about a major issue that I needed to know, So I reached out to him. We
had a lunch date, and he was telling me what was going on in the
production meetings about me. I was deeply hurt from what he told me.
I went to talk to Universal Home Entertainment and I actually told
them I didn't want the role anymore.
> E) I was told you were replaced by Adam Hurting, A white actor who is listed
> as "officer Stanton" on IMDb, is this true ?
Well, I heard they replaced me with an Latino actor, but Yes that is
true. I was supposed to be "Officer Stanton". I feel that's why they
replaced me with a "white" actor to avoid controversy about casting
urban actors.
> F) What was the exact nature of your issue with the role you were initially
> up for for you to turn it down, I feel this is the most confusing part to a
> lot of people ?
It was all about dignity and respect. I left my audition knowing I had
the role, and I was told right after that I immediately got casted. So
I really was excited for this role because this would be my first
movie ever. I didn't feel respected as an actor. I apologize to all of
the fans, I recently did a interview saying that I turned down the
role to focus on just my music. And they felt that there were more
details to my reason. So few weeks later, I had to clarify about it
more to the fans of the Chucky series and my fans too. I knew They
really wanted to see me on this production, but it was really
difficult to turn down a role like this. I didn't care about the money
advance, contracts nor the movie being straight to DVD. I really was
up for the role. At first, I was steery about the "Straight to DVD",
but I didnt care.
> G) What are your feelings about Don and the production of this film at this
> point ?
I can't say anything rude. They tried to play it sly with me, I was
anxious for this role. I wish them but the best.
> H) I also saw that you refered to this film as a remake, It's been rumored
> for a long time that this film was in actuality a remake or "reboot"
I'm not at legibility to say the entire synopsis. But It's actually a
"remake/reboot." I studied my script for a long time and it was very
similar to the previous film when it started at the beginning but with
few changes. They wanted to retrace the steps and make it look like he
actually did not spiral to horror-comedy movies. This movie is
actually full on horror.
> We've recieved word that the film is a sequel ignoring the Jennifer tilly
> involved sequels Bride and Seed, can you confirm this ?
*****************************Spoiler*************************************
I can confirm it, like I said they're trying to go back to the old
times before Chucky became a "doll". Get it? He actually did something
big before he transformed his "soul" into the doll. Which he conceived
a child, and had a daughter. That's why Brad's daughter is actually
casted as the daughter in the movie.
> What is the overall tone of the film, is it an actual horror movie or a
> spoof like the last two films.
It's a full on horror, but I heard that they tweaked it since I
dropped the role. So we'll see...
> I) Have you seen the new Chucky puppet ? There's great debate whether the're
> finally going to retire that stitched up Franken chucky look and make him
> look like he did in the original films
You'll be surprised when you see Chucky. I was told not to speak about
how the doll looks. But I can definitely promise you guys, you will be
surprised.
