As many of you know, "Doctor Who" is something that is near and dear to me and if there is one thing that I would like to share is the music from the show.
Now, for those who don't know "Doctor Who" first aired on 1963 and ended in 1989 with the 7th incarnation of "The Doctor" who is the main character. He is Timelord from the planet Gallifrey who has 2 hearts, has the ability to regenerate when he is in mortal danger, is prevy to seeing through all of space and time, and can travel anywhere in space and time in his TARDIS (Time and Relative Dimension in Space) which looks like a blue 1950's british Police Box that is larger on the inside. Unlike other Timelord's he can not control what he is going to regenerate into and theoretically he can regenerate into a woman but that hasn't happened... yet.
In 1996 Fox and BBC tried to revive the show via TV movie which featured the 7th Doctor who then regenerated into the 8th Doctor. This didn't work out as well as they had hoped.
Then in 2005 the show was revived once again introducing a darker edge and mordern effects as the 1963-1989 series never moved along with the times in the special effects department. Since 2005 Murray Gold has been the man behind the music and he is a genius.
So lets start with the shows main theme through all the years.
It's funny because you can literally see and hear how they tried to keep up with the times. I will say for 1963, the original theme was a stroke of genius considering electrinics was brought into making music quite yet. It's like Devo happening 20 years before, well... Devo.
Here is a theme that gives me all kinds of emotions. I find it to be triumphet and sad in one shot. I don't care who makes fun of me but this brings me to tears. It's starts of strong but then at 0:59 it gets soft and crescendos into pure beauty. Enjoy.
This next one is only sad if you actually watched the episode it's tied to, but even if you didn't it's still give off a sense of seriousness. I learned how to play this and I can even sing it rather well despite me not being a female vocalist.
This last one is all kinds of awesome. It is the current Doctor's theme. Everytime he is about to do something epic this nice tune will kick in. It's a shame David Tennant (The 10th Doctor) never had the chance to have this lovely piece of music playing in the background when he was doing his Doctor thing. Maybe he'll get this treatment in the upcoming 50th Anniversary Epidsode on Nov 23rd which I can't wait to see.
Thanks for stopping by.
