I just had this thought about how us fans are towards many areas of being a Chucky fan.
I feel a majority of the time that we are too accepting of whats given to us as fans, and I am talking about everything from the movies themselves, to merchandise.
In another thread I was making a point about how Don decision on making Chucky an inorganic doll in Curse, and as fans... should we accept that? Really we have no choice in the matter, but I can't help but find that insulting on some level. Same can be said with having to swallow down Seed for some fans. Again we can't control what the creators want to do with Chucky, but I just hate how some of the other icons got better treatment. I know the franchise having a split genre fanbase doesn't help, but it's like they say if something new isn't working you can always go back to formula.
Then we get really shafted in the merchandise department. Chucky items are always expensive, and limited. On top of that, most of the time low quality as well. I mean seriously how hard is it to get us a doll, or figure we can really be proud of without having to break the bank to get it? Again we have no conrtol over what companies do, don't do, or the products they produce but still... I feel like the companies that make these things just flat out don't care. Also because there are so little items to be had (at least compared to merchandise for other famous horror franchises) it almost gives a company more reason to be lazy when making said product. Almost as if there not being enough Chucky merch gives them good reason to not work as hard to give us a quality product because we have few options. We'll buy it anyway just to have something in realtion to our fandom.
Bandai made really crappy Power Ranger toys when they relaunched Might Morphin Power Rangers in 2010. They had this attitude and made subpar products that relied soley on the name, and guess what... it failed miserably. Now that we are still in the midst of their 20th Anniversary celebration... they are now pumping out good products that both older fans and kids can be proud of. Thank God they had a 2nd opportunity to make up from their first mistake.
Just like this example... whoever has the power to make us good Chucky products is sitting on a goldmine and they don't realize it.
